with Rome --- The Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, is located in the southern
area of the town of Asciano. The imposing religious complex, beautifully preserved
and visitable, is still the home of the Benedictine Congregation and the Institute of
book restoration. --- The town of Pienza is probably the most important artistical
centre of the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of its important
heritage is concentrated in the square dedicated to Pope Pius II. ---
Montalcino, known for the Brunello Wine, is located on a hill already inhabited
in Etruscan times, and has a wonderful view on the valleys of the Ombrone
and Asso. Historically also dedicated to the production of leather, it enjoys a privileged
location on the Via Francigena. --- The Abbey of Sant'Antimo is one of the most
important buildings of the Tuscan Romanesque. The monastic community currently
has eight monks, and all functions are sung in Gregorian and in the original Latin.
Unfortunately, on May 2015, the monks have announced that later this year they
will leave definitively the Abbey.

L'ampia Valle, attraversata dal fiume Orcia che le da il nome, è caratterizzata da incantevoli
e tipici panorami, con l’inconfondibile presenza di cipressi, e dai molti borghi medievali.
Oltre ad essere una gioia per gli occhi, è meta consigliatissima per tour enogastronomici.
Dall’Agriturismo Amina in direzione sud, attraverso la vecchia Cassia che congiungeva
Siena con Roma. --- L'Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore, si trova nell'area meridionale
del comune di Asciano. L'imponente complesso religioso, magnificamente conservato e
visitabile,è tuttora sede della Congregazione benedettina e dell'Istituto di restauro del
libro. --- La cittadina di Pienza, è probabilmente il centro più rinomato e di maggiore
importanza artistica di tutta la Val d'Orcia, dichiarato dall'UNESCO patrimonio dell'umanità.
Gran parte del suo rilevante patrimonio si concentra nella suggestiva piazza dedicata al
pontefice Pio II. --- Montalcino, nota soprattutto per la produzione del Vino Brunello,
si trova su una collina probabilmente abitata già in epoca etrusca, che le dona una
splendida vista sulle valli dell'Ombrone e dell'Asso. Storicamente dedita anche alla
produzione del cuoio, gode di una posizione privilegiata sulla Via Francigena. ---
L’Abbazia di Sant’Antimo è una delle architetture più importanti del romanico toscano.
Attualmente la comunità conta otto monaci, e tutte le funzioni vengono cantate in
gregoriano e in originale lingua latina. Purtroppo nel maggio 2015
i frati hanno annunciato che a fine anno lasceranno definitivamente l'abbazia.
